The New York Mets reportedly intend to make an announcement at season's end regarding the status of general manager Sandy Alderson and manager Terry Collins, but both are expected to return for the 2015 campaign, sources told the New York Daily News.

Collins remains under contract for the upcoming season, but his future with the club has generated much debate in recent months. Alderson, meanwhile, is not technically under contract, but the club holds an option on the executive for 2015 and could also work out an extension.

Collins' status, however, won't be determined until the team has ascertained who will serve as general manager next season, though there is reportedly a
"mutual desire" for Alderson to return for 2015.

It’s not as if extensions have been signed, and are awaiting announcements; rather, decisions and negotiations lie ahead. But obviously, both men now appear almost certain to return.

Alderson praised the efforts of Collins in what's likely to be a sixth consecutive losing season.

“I think he’s done a good job," Alderson said. "Throughout the season, we’ve had some issues that we’ve had to deal with. He has handled them very well. We have seen the growth of our young players, especially in the pitching area. And we have played well the last - really, if we go back to even before the All-Star break. So he has done an excellent job.”
