Mets' Hefner 'likely' headed for second Tommy John surgery

New York Mets right-hander Jeremy Hefner indicated Monday he's likely headed for his second Tommy John surgery after re-injuring his wonky elbow during a rehab game last month, ESPN New York reports.

"(I) flew to Pensacola, FL yesterday afternoon to see Dr. James Andrews about my elbow," Hefner wrote on his Facebook page. "New X-rays and CT scan showed no healing. Will continue to rest for a few more weeks. Surgery is likely, but not definite. Clarity will come soon."

Hefner spent most of the 2014 campaign recovering from the UCL reconstruction he underwent last August, but proceeded to re-tear his ligament Aug. 6 while pitching for Hi-A St. Lucie.
