Chris Young ends Alex Cobb’s no-hit bid with 1-out double in the 8th; blasts 3-run walk-off HR

Tampa Bay Rays righty Alex Cobb was five outs away from making history at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night before Chris Young doubled to right-center field to end his no-hit bid.

Cobb got Stephen Drew to pop out in foul territory to start the eighth inning but left a pitch over the plate to Young, who took advantage of the mistake with a hard liner to the gap.

Rays manager Joe Maddon wasted no time getting the 26-year-old out of the game following the hit, calling on Brad Boxberger in relief. Pinch-hitter Martin Prado then promptly took Boxberger deep for a two-run homer to cut the Rays lead to 4-2.

Cobb's final line: 7.1 IP, ER, R, 2 BB, 4 K, 101 pitches.

Sadly, the Rays would fall victim to a Young walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning that gave the Yankees a come-from-behind 5-4 victory.

The first and only no-hitter in Rays' franchise history was thrown by Matt Garza on July 26, 2010 vs. the Detroit Tigers.
