It will be an emotional night at U.S. Cellular Field on Sept. 27 when the Chicago White Sox honor their longtime slugger Paul Konerko.

The team announced Wednesday that Paul Konerko Night will take place before their penultimate game against the Kansas City Royals. A pregame ceremony will celebrate the the captain's 16-year career with the South Siders.

Konerko's career will end the following day.

Although Konerko's farewell tour pales in comparison to Derek Jeter's, the 38-year-old was touched by the show of respect from the Minnesota Twins, who gave him gifts and recognized his accomplishments on Wednesday before his final game against the American League Central rivals.

"That's not to take away from the other places, but I'll always be an American League guy and an American League Central guy," Konerko said, via MLB.com. "Above and beyond, the $10,000 to the Children's Aid will go to good use - and at some point the wine will go to good use - it's really nice. And having Joe [Mauer] out there it's like a Derek Jeter situation. He's kind of a legend-type guy."

Konerko, an integral component of the Chicago's 2005 World Series-winning team, will end his career close to several franchise records and will surely be a legitimate candidate for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame once he's eligible.
