Freese was given a "mental break" Tuesday against the Astros, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Analysis:

Freese currently finds himself in an 0-for-17 skid while simultaneously being unhappy about his role as the designated hitter in four of the last nine games, so manager Mike Scioscia decided it would be best to "let him exhale for a day." There has been no indication that this is anything more than a one-day break, but with Gordon Beckham having tallied six RBI in his last five games, Freese could see his playing time dip if he can't dig himself out of the hole.
