Brewers acquire Jonathan Broxton from Reds

Brad Mills / USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers addressed their need for bullpen help on Sunday and they found it within the division.

The hulking right-hander has been excellent for the Reds in a setup role this season, posting a 1.86 ERA and 1.01 WHIP through 48 1/3 innings.

Broxton, 30, is in the second of a three-year, $21 million deal and was set to earn $9 million next season prior to the trade. However, as Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors points out, "Broxton’s contract has a clause that causes that club option to become a mutual option with a $2 million buyout if he is traded, meaning he is now guaranteed $12.19 million through the end of the 2015 campaign."

The Reds will receive two players, yet to be announced.
