Report: Dodgers 'doubtful' to trade for Bartolo Colon

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

Though the New York Mets may elect to trade veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon before Sunday, it appears the 41-year-old won't wind up with the Los Angeles Dodgers, one source told the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo on Thursday.

Injuries to Josh Beckett and Hyun-jin Ryu weakened the Dodgers' rotation in recent weeks, but the latter's impending return has reportedly diminished the club's desire to pursue Colon.

Colon is eligible to be traded to any club after clearing revocable waivers Monday, but the 17-year veteran must be dealt by Aug. 31 at midnight in order to be eligible for his new team's postseason roster. The hefty hurler's $11-million salary for next season is thought to be a deterrent for teams interested in acquiring his services.

Through 25 starts for the Mets this season, Colon owns a 3.82 ERA (92 ERA+) with a 1.15 WHIP through 167 1/3 innings. A prolific strike-thrower, Colon boasts a 3.2 percent walk rate this season, the third-best mark among qualified starters.
