Cardinals' Molina set for full workout Tuesday

Chris Humphreys / USA TODAY Sports

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is nearing his return to game action, and the 32-year-old could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment shortly barring a setback in Tuesday's workout, according to Jim Hayes of Fox Sports Midwest.

Molina caught a bullpen session two weeks ago and will increase the intensity of his workouts Tuesday.

He last took the field for the Cardinals on July 9, missing nearly seven weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. The injury has limited Molina to just 83 games this season, and the Cardinals have relied on Tony Cruz and A.J. Pierzynski behind the plate in Molina's absence.
