You can read the entirety of what or what isn't ruled a balk in Major League Baseball, but in Sunday's game at Coors Field, there's only one part you really need to know:

"Umpires should bear in mind that the purpose of the balk rule is to prevent the pitcher from deliberately deceiving the base runner."

With that in mind, San Diego Padres reliever Alex Torres executed the finest pick-off attempt in history, considering this throw to first wasn't called a balk by the umpires.

According to the Rockies' broadcast, the move is undoubtedly a balk. According to the Padres' side, it's the greatest, most clever move of all time.

Balks aren't eligible for instant replay review, but the play itself at first - whether Rockies' Charlie Blackmon made it back to the bag - was challenged by Padres' manager Bud Black.

The umpires upheld the call that Blackmon was safe, even though he probably deserved second base.
