Dylan Fosnacht threw 194 pitches over 14 innings for Rochester (Wash.) High School on Tuesday, racking up 17 strikeouts before reluctantly yielding to the bullpen in the top of the 15th inning, according to MaxPreps.com.
Fosnacht's absurd pitch count prompted an outpouring of concern on social media, particularly among those wary of the ongoing Tommy John surgery epidemic among major-league pitchers. Fosnacht, however, was rather cavalier about the incident and its potential consequences.
Tampa Bay Rays left-hander David Price lauded the youngster's passion, but was decidedly critical of his coach's questionable judgment.
