The Braves haven't told Wood whether he is more likely to begin the season as a starter or a reliever, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Analysis:

Wood is preparing to open the year in the rotation, but knows the team's situation and that he shouldn't assume anything at this stage of his career. The Braves currently have just one lefty in the bullpen in Luis Avilan (Jonny Venters is out until late May/early June), and starting Wood out in the bullpen would be one way to manage his innings. Between the major and minor leagues last season, Wood tossed just 143 innings. If the team does go that route, Freddy Garcia would be the leading candidate for the No. 5 role.
