Hernandez is the heavy favorite to open the year as the Phillies' fifth starter, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

Analysis:

Hernandez will be competing with Jonathan Pettibone and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez for the job. Two of the three are likely to open the year in the rotation with Cole Hamels expected to miss some time in early-April. Hernandez was 6-13 with a 4.89 ERA and a career-best 2.97 K:BB ratio in 32 appearances (24 starts) with the Rays last season.
