Zito's career has gone downhill ever since he signed a seven-year, $126 million contract with the Giants back in December 2006, so there was no chance of him sticking with the team at an expensive price for another season. He went 5-11 with a 5.74 ERA and 1.70 over 30 games (25 starts) last season and may not even attract interest as a back-of-the-rotation starter at this point in his career.
