After failing to make the postseason for the first time since 2014, the Toronto Blue Jays might be willing to go all in for the best position player available in free agency.

Outfielder J.D. Martinez is on the Blue Jays' radar, and while they aren't seen as the favorite to land the 30-year-old slugger, the club has considered him as an option, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Martinez has been linked to the Boston Red Sox but the Blue Jays do have a need in the outfield - specifically right field - with the Jose Bautista era now over. It remains to be seen if general manager Ross Atkins would be willing to hand out a long-term contract worth upwards of $200 million for Martinez, who, despite his tremendous offensive production, is viewed by some as below-average defensively.

After losing Edwin Encarnacion in free agency last winter, the Blue Jays struggled offensively as a group this year as hitters ranked among the league's bottom 10 after combining to hit .240/.312/.412 (91 wRC+).

Martinez is coming off an incredible 2017 season split between the Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks in which he hit .303/.376/.690 along with 166 wRC+ and 3.8 WAR in only 119 games.
