Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras had his two-game suspension for his outburst at umpire Jordan Baker cut in half.

Contreras received the ban Saturday after his catcher's mask hit Baker on the leg during an argument the day before, but the penalty was reduced to one game following an appeal, according to Carrie Muskat of MLB.com. The suspension means Contreras will miss Sunday's series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals.

With Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez at the plate with two outs in the fifth inning, Contreras and Cubs pitcher John Lackey began arguing with Baker after they believed he missed a strike-three call. The following pitch was driven into right field for an RBI single by Martinez. While the play was still going on, Lackey and Contreras both confronted Baker at home plate and were involved in a heated argument.

Following the incident, one that resulted in Contreras' ejection, the 25-year-old expressed regret for his actions, and made sure to apologize to Baker prior to Saturday's game.

"I needed to apologize," Contreras said. "Nobody's perfect. That was part of my job today was to apologize to everybody and move on."
