Ortiz thinks Price should apologize to Eckersley: 'Let's just move on'

David Ortiz feels his former Boston Red Sox teammate David Price should take the high road and apologize to Dennis Eckersley in order to end the saga that's engulfed the club since it was reported that Price mocked Eckersley on a team flight in June.

"I don't think it's fair to get stuck on something that was mishandled and can be fixed," Ortiz told Scott Lauber of ESPN. "If he has to come and apologize to Eckersley because of the way that things went down or whatever, let's do it and let's just move on."

The confrontation on the Red Sox team charter stemmed from Price taking issue with Eckersley, now a television analyst with NESN, saying "yuck" when the box score of an underwhelming Eduardo Rodriguez rehab start was displayed onscreen.

"We'll speak when he's here in person," Price told Stephen Hewitt of the Boston Herald. "We'll definitely talk it out." Price has been critical of the former closer for rarely being around the Boston clubhouse.

Ortiz was at Fenway Park on Sunday to commemorate the 2007 World Series championship team.

The Eckersley-Price saga, which has lasted over a month, is still awaiting a resolution. Dustin Pedroia spoke with Eckersley already and expects the 31-year-old left-hander to do the same.

Price is currently sidelined with an elbow injury and has posted a 3.82 ERA and 4.00 FIP over 66 innings in his second season with the Red Sox.
