Rays acquire Dan Jennings from White Sox

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired additional bullpen depth Thursday by trading minor-league first baseman Casey Gillaspie to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for left-handed reliever Dan Jennings, the team announced.

Jennings' trade is the fourth deal White Sox general manager Rick Hahn's made since the All-Star break. Jose Quintana, Todd Frazier, David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle, and Anthony Swarzak have all been moved as well.

Jennings, who is expected to join his new team in New York on Thursday, helps a Rays relief corps sorely lacking in left-handers. The 30-year-old joins rookie Adam Kolarek as the only southpaws in Tampa's 'pen.

He's set to earn the remainder of his $1.4-million salary this season and is arbitration eligible for the next two years.

Over the course of the 2017 campaign, Jennings owns a 3.45 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, and he's held left-handed hitters to a .169/.286/.211 slash line.

In a corresponding move, the Rays designated right-hander Diego Moreno for assignment.
