Those who predicted the New York Mets would promote Amed Rosario before Tim Tebow were definitely onto something.

The long-awaited debut of the highly touted Mets prospect is tentatively planned to come shortly after the July 31 trade deadline, with the club expected to give their shortstop of the future the opportunity to prove himself, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Fans have been eagerly waiting to get a peak at Rosario since the beginning of the season, but the Mets have been extra cautious with their top prospect, opting instead to stick with veterans Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera at shortstop.

Of those two veterans, Cabrera is most likely to be moved prior to or at the deadline. Infielder T.J. Rivera has also been involved in trade speculation.

Despite the Mets' reluctance to call him up, Rosario has passed all his tests with flying colors. After hitting .341/.392/.481 in 54 games last season in Double-A, the 21-year-old has performed even better this year. Entering Wednesday, Rosario is hitting .328/.366/.470 with seven home runs, 56 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases in 89 games in Triple-A . He's also cut down his strikeouts from 21.5 percent in 2016 to 15.2 percent this season.

In MLB Pipeline's midseason prospect update, Rosario was ranked second among the top 100 prospects and No. 1 among shortstops.
