Bochy convinced baseballs are causing blisters after Cueto injury

Add San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy to the list of people who suspect the league's blister epidemic is the result of different baseballs.

The longtime manager's take came after the Giants placed right-hander Johnny Cueto on the disabled list with a blister issue that forced him out of Friday's start.

"Yeah, I think there is (a link)," Bochy said, according to Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News. "I think there’s enough evidence that they might be a little higher, the seams. Johnny, he’s pitched for a long time and for him to make a comment, and there’s times we’ve gripped a ball and there’s evidence the seams could be a little higher."

Bochy isn't the first to question the baseballs this season. Toronto Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman recently referred to the issue as a league-wide epidemic, after the right-hander, who said he's never had a blister in his life, was forced to leave a start early.

Stroman's comments led the league to investigate the issue, though it doesn't appear the topic will go away anytime soon.

Cueto, meanwhile, is expected to miss a minimum of two starts. It remains to be seen if he'll meet that timetable, as several pitchers, including the Blue Jays' Aaron Sanchez and Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Rich Hill, have endured extended absences with blister issues.
