Fulmer confident Tigers won't trade him despite rumors

Detroit Tigers right-hander Michael Fulmer believes he'll be sticking around the Motor City.

It was reported earlier this week that the Chicago Cubs had offered Kyle Schwarber in a potential deal for Fulmer, though serious talks never materialized and the Cubs ended up trading for Jose Quintana.

"I heard it. It's on social media. I see it. I hear it," Fulmer said, according to George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press. "But it's just rumors. I'm just going to pitch for the Tigers and go win every fifth day."

He added: "I don't think I'm going anywhere, so I'm not really worried about it. We're trying to keep the whole team together right now. So we gotta start the second half off on a winning streak and just keep going up."

The Tigers enter Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays eight games back in the division and 6 1/2 games back of the second wild-card spot, making it highly likely they'll be sellers at the deadline.

While Fulmer will generate plenty of interest, it's unlikely the club would be willing to part with a controllable arm coming off a Rookie of the Year-winning season and his first All-Star appearance. Fulmer's teammates J.D Martinez, Justin Wilson, and Alex Avila, however, are all expected to be dealt. Detroit could also look to move Ian Kinsler and Justin Verlander, as well.
