Mets want Cespedes to drink more water

The New York Mets may have to hire the modern-day version of Bobby Boucher in order to keep their star outfielder hydrated with high-quality H2O.

Yoenis Cespedes departed Monday's game due to cramping in his hamstring, and in order to prevent injury in the future, the Mets are trying to encourage the two-time All-Star to keep himself better hydrated.

"I'm not a big water drinker," Cespedes said, according to James Wagner of the New York Times. "Since I got hurt, I've been drinking more water. I think this will help me."

In addition to Monday's departure, Cespedes had already missed more than a month earlier this season with a hamstring injury.

While the Mets training staff tries to do their part to keep Cespedes on the field, general manager Sandy Alderson has also taken it upon himself to encourage Cespedes to do more to stay healthy.

"It's not just water," Alderson said. "It's the stretching. It's the running. It's the variety of pregame aspects of his routine that have changed."

Cespedes is hitting .281/.344/.532 with nine home runs, eight doubles, and 19 RBIs in 39 games this season.
