Padres' Ryan Schimpf: Goes deep again Thursday
Schimpf went 1-for-3 with his fifth home run of the season in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
Analysis:
The slugging second baseman has now homered in back-to-back games after it appeared that he was losing time to the recently recalled Cory Spangenberg. With two consecutive starts -- accompanied by two homers -- it appears Schimpf has extended his stay as the Padres' starter at third against righties. His .125 batting average makes him an unappealing option in shallower formats, but deep-league owners who are starving for power may want to consider the 29-year-old as a middle infielder, with hopes that he gets his batting average back over the Mendoza Line at some point this season.
