Padres' Trevor Cahill: Rocky start despite missing plenty of bats

Cahill didn't factor into the decision against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday despite recording nine strikeouts over 5.2 innings, as he gave up five earned runs on nine hits, four walks and a wild pitch.

Analysis:

Cahill notched 13 swinging strikes but also ran into some tough luck, with Paul Goldschmidt getting to him for the first two runs of the game on singles that caromed off Yangervis Solarte's glove and Cahill's leg, respectively. Arizona continued to chip away at him until Goldschmidt struck for a third time with an RBI double to right in the fourth, which represented the final run the right-hander surrendered. The 29-year-old, who's gone at least 5.2 innings in each of his four trips to the mound, was coming off his best start of the season last Friday night against the Marlins and will try to bounce back in a home date versus the Rockies next Tuesday.
