Rockies earn 1st home sweep of Giants in 15 years

The Colorado Rockies might be one of the biggest surprises through the first three weeks of the 2017 campaign, and on Sunday they finally got a monkey off their backs.

Colorado shut out the Giants 8-0 at Coors Field for its first home sweep of San Francisco since 2002, which also pushed its National League West-leading record to 13-6.

"We're a team," veteran outfielder Gerardo Parra told Chris Haft and Owen Perkins of MLB.com. "If you're not hitting today, maybe CarGo's hitting tomorrow. The only thing right now is just play to win. The starting pitching is doing great work, throwing six, seven innings. Every time we win, we're happy. But forget it today and be ready for tomorrow."

The Rockies dominated the Giants - who received bad news about the health of Madison Bumgarner on Friday after he was involved in a dirt bike accident - by outscoring them 26-8.

During Colorado's great start, the Rockies are receiving outstanding production from annual MVP candidate Nolan Arenado, five-tool outfielder Charlie Blackmon, and veteran Mark Reynolds who is filling in for an injured Ian Desmond.

PLAYER AB HR RBI AVG OPS
Nolan Arenado 70 6 13 .329 1.064
Charlie Blackmon 74 5 15 .270 .916
Mark Reynolds 66 5 16 .318 1.000

The Rockies have also received great work out of their bullpen, which owns an NL-leading 2.76 ERA, has converted 10-of-11 save opportunities, and is a perfect 5-0.

Mike Dunn 10 7.2 1.17 0.91 10
