Rays place Hunter on 10-day DL with calf strain

The Tampa Bay Rays have placed right-handed reliever Tommy Hunter on the 10-day disabled list with a right calf strain, the team announced Sunday.

In a corresponding move, right-hander Chih-Wei Hu was promoted from Triple-A Montgomery.

Hu has logged 16 innings in Triple-A this season, posting a 3.94 ERA, 4.26 FIP, and 1.31 WHIP over three starts. The 23-year-old came into the season as the Rays' fifth-best prospect, and second-best pitcher, according to Baseball America.

The 30-year-old Hunter was off to a strong start, allowing just one run over his 10 appearances this season. Hunter was removed from Saturday's game after trying to cover first base and feeling a sharp pain in his calf. "My right calf didn't want me to go," Hunter told reporters for MLB.com. "I got bit by a snake."
