Watch: Rizzo's late bomb ties game; Bryant's sacrifice wins it in extras

David Kohl / USA TODAY Sports

Early rumblings that something might be amiss with the defending champions were at least temporarily muted by the Chicago Cubs' late-inning theatrics Friday night.

First baseman Anthony Rizzo hit a monster three-run homer in the ninth inning to tie the Cincinnati Reds at five runs apiece, and Kris Bryant later gave the Cubs the lead for good in the 11th inning on a slightly less dramatic sacrifice fly.

While the Cubs may not be in dominant form early on, the win did push them half a game ahead of the Reds in the NL Central standings going into Saturday afternoon's contest.
