Hernandez to see doctors after experiencing shoulder tightness

Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez will be examined by team doctors in Seattle after the right-hander complained of shoulder tightness during his two-inning outing Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers, manager Scott Servais said, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

"He had some stiffness in his shoulder going out for the second inning, but there wasn't any pain," Servais said, according to The Associated Press. ''He said it was more like a dead arm, but there's obviously some concern when you are talking about a pitcher's shoulder. He's been a horse for us, but we have to get this checked out.''

Hernandez was pulled from Tuesday's contest to begin the third inning. Prior to being removed, Hernandez had allowed an uncharacteristic four earned runs on six hits, including a two-run home run to James McCann in the second inning. He also walked two batters and struck out a pair.

Hernandez's injury was only the start of a excruciatingly rough night for the Mariners. The club also lost outfielder Mitch Haniger to a strained oblique, and the bullpen didn't fare much better after Hernandez's exit, allowing a combined 15 earned runs on 18 hits en route to a 19-9 loss.
