Farrell: 'We're moving on' from chippy series in Baltimore

With a hectic series from this past weekend in Baltimore now a thing of the past, Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell is ready to turn his focus toward the future.

A controversial slide from Orioles third baseman Manny Machado into the leg of Dustin Pedroia on Friday caused the Red Sox second baseman to limp off the field with a knee injury. From there, things turned ugly in the series on Sunday when Machado was nearly plunked in the head by Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes - who received a four-game suspension Monday.

With the discipline for Barnes now in place, Farrell wants to shift his attention and prepare his players for their upcoming series against the division-rival New York Yankees.

"It’s been addressed, it’s behind us and we focus on an important series as they all are in division," Farrell told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday, according to Evan Drellich of the CSNNE. "Game of baseball’s going to be played hard.

"Again, like I said, we’ve handled all that’s kind of fallen out from it," the manager added. "I’m not trying to give you a short answer but we’re moving on."

Pedroia hasn't appeared in a game since being spiked by Machado during the slide, and was listed as day to day after being examined by doctors Monday.

The Red Sox and Orioles will next play each other in a four-game set at Fenway Park in Boston from May 1-4.
