Blue Jays' Roberto Osuna: Set for minor-league action over weekend
Manager John Gibbons said Wednesday that Osuna (neck) is feeling better and is on track to pitch in a minor-league game over the weekend, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis:
Osuna's placement on the 10-day disabled list to begin the season came as a bit of a surprise, but the Blue Jays aren't expecting him to miss extended time. According to John Lott of The Athletic Toronto, Osuna was able to throw about 35-to-40 pitches off flat ground without incident Wednesday, so he'll presumably get in a throwing session off the mound in the next day or two before heading to Florida to continue his rehab. The Blue Jays didn't have a save situation arise in their lone game to date, but Jason Grilli is viewed as the leading candidate to serve as the interim closer for the duration of Osuna's absence.
