Watch: Trout kicks off MVP defense with 2-run HR

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Sigh. Mike Trout is already doing Mike Trout things.

After grounding into a double play in the first inning against the Oakland Athletics and starting pitcher Kendall Graveman, Trout roared back with a line drive home run to left-center field. The home run gave the Angels its first lead of the young season.

The home run is Trout's third-career Opening Day home run, tying him with Tim Salmon and Joe Rudi for most in Angels franchise history. Since Trout has only played in four Opening Day contests, it's reasonable to expect this record will belong solely to him before too long.
