Look: Gordon wears custom insoles in memory of Jose Fernandez
Dee Gordon made sure Jose Fernandez took the field with the Miami Marlins to open the 2017 season.
Gordon took the field in Washington wearing a pair of custom-made insoles in memory of Fernandez. One insole displayed Gordon and Fernandez laughing together, while the other showed the late pitcher and his trademark smile looking down on the Marlins' roster. Under Armour created the special gear and surprised Gordon with the insoles at Nationals Park.
Gordon was hit particularly hard by the death of Fernandez, his close friend and teammate, last September. His emotional leadoff home run in the Marlins' first game after Fernandez's death created a memorable and iconic moment of healing for both the Marlins and all of baseball.
