Maybe there are a few people in Boston who don't like Big Papi.

Residents of Beantown were no doubt shocked Friday morning to find that vandals had defaced a sign marking the newly renamed "David Ortiz Bridge" that spans the Charles River with some graffiti and a few stickers.

The defaced sign is apparently the same one that was first presented to Ortiz by Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker during his retirement ceremony last October.

It's expected that a new sign will be in place by the end of the day Friday, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation spokesman Patrick Marvin told the Boston Globe's Steve Annear that they'll be "check(ing) the sign on Monday morning to ensure it is in good condition for Red Sox Opening Day."

A citation from the state government last October called the renaming of the bridge for Ortiz a tribute to his "athletic accomplishment during 14 seasons as a member of the Boston Red Sox, and ... his charitable commitment to children in New England and the Dominican Republic."
