Pirates' Jung Ho Kang: Process moving slowly

Pittsburgh doesn't expect Kang (restricted list) to be cleared for a work visa anytime soon. "It will take some time," Pirates president Frank Coonelly told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "We are continuing to work with him and his representative to try to provide the information necessary to the U.S. government to secure the visa. We haven't been able to accomplish that as of now."

Analysis:

Coonelly said Kang has adhered to "a very, very strict treatment program" that he voluntarily accepted as recommended by Major League Baseball. For his part, Kang has been working out in a cold-weather location in South Korea. The Pirates have said he'll need time in extended spring training -- most likely three weeks to a month -- if and when he's cleared to enter the United States.
