Red Sox' twitter gets salty with Pirates before Opening Day contest

The Boston Red Sox host the Pittsburgh Pirates when Opening Day rolls around next week, and they'd like their visitors to take a stroll down Yawkey Way and notice the 1903 World Series banner - at least, according to their official Twitter account.

In preparation for Opening Day, the Pirates official Twitter account shared a GIF which stated that Fred Clarke and Clint Hurdle are two of just five Pirates managers to have won 500 games.

The Pirates social media team has taken it upon themselves to do a 1903-themed countdown to Opening Day, hyping up a rematch of the two teams meeting in the World Series that year. Clarke, who won his 500th-career game as a manager in the 1903 season, was listed specifically as '1903 Pirates manager' though he managed the team from 1900 until 1915.

The Red Sox Twitter account rebutted by showing off their shiny banner from that very season.

It is pretty suspicious that the Pirates would even mention 1903 in particular though. I mean, they could have highlighted Clarke's 1909 season instead, in which he earned his first World Series ring as a manager and won his 1100th game. Instead though, this seems like a sneakingly-suspicious ploy in order to get baseball writers to talk about an Opening Day interleague matchu ... wait a minute.
