Mets 'fully support' Familia's 15-game ban

The New York Mets have no objections to the 15-game suspension MLB handed to Jeurys Familia on Wednesday.

In a statement following the announcement, the Mets organization backed the ruling by the commissioner's office, as well as Familia's decision not to appeal.

"The Mets fully support MLB's domestic violence policy, the discipline handed down today by commissioner Manfred, and the decision by Jeurys to accept his penalty without an appeal," the team said.

If Familia had appealed, an independent arbitrator could have handed the reliever a suspension longer than 31 days. That would have pushed back his free-agency eligibility by one season until after the 2018 campaign, according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman.
