Reds' Sal Romano: Sent to minors camp

Romano was optioned to minor-league camp Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Analysis:

Romano was vying for a spot in the Reds' depleted starting rotation, but he ultimately lost out on the job. His last outing of spring saw him allow seven runs (five earned) on nine hits in 4.2 innings of work against the Brewers, which could have done him in. The 23-year-old received high praise from key personnel multiple times, so he could see himself in the big leagues before the year ends if injuries continue to mar Cincinnati's pitching staff.
