Mets' Jeurys Familia: Expected to pitch Tuesday
Familia is expected to pitch during Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis:
Familia is still awaiting word on a possible suspension while MLB continues to investigate his domestic violence incident in October, but in the meantime, he's been working out in preparation for the season. After recently pitching for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, Familia is now on tap for his first appearance of Grapefruit League play, and could take the mound again before spring training draws to a close. The Mets have said that they expect a suspension to be handed down to Familia later this week and are optimistic that the reliever's case will receive more leniency than the 30 games Aroldis Chapman received for a domestic violence incident the previous offseason. While Familia is out, Addison Reed is expected to fill in as the team's closer.
