Cubs' Addison Russell: Shooting for Wednesday return

Russell (back) is shooting for a Wednesday return to Cactus League play, the Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer reports.

Analysis:

He admitted that a short DL stint is possible if the issue lingers, but he does not expect that to happen. If he gets back into game action Wednesday, it sounds like he will be on track to be ready for the start of the season. Javier Baez would be the replacement option at shortstop if Russell misses time with the balky back.
