White Sox's Tim Anderson: Expected to occupy No. 2 spot in lineup

Manager Rick Renteria said he expects Anderson to serve as the No. 2 hitter for the White Sox in most games, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis:

Though Anderson's skills as a base stealer stack up well with just about any player on the roster, he hasn't yet demonstrated that he's capable of getting on base frequently enough to make for a strong option at the top of the order. Batting in the No. 2 spot shouldn't dramatically reduce Anderson's opportunities to wreak havoc on the bases and score runs, and he could even ascend to the leadoff spot if he shows an improved eye at the plate early on during his second season in the big leagues. Renteria currently plans to use either second baseman Tyler Saladino or center fielders Peter Bourjos and Jacob May in the leadoff spot to begin the season, but none of them seems to represent a long-term solution at the top of the order.
