Tigers' Mike Pelfrey: Prepared for a bullpen role

Pelfrey said he is prepared for any role the Tigers give him, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Analysis:

"Start, relieve. You want me to pinch run? I'll do that, too. I don't care," Pelfrey said. "I just want to play. I want to be on the team. I want to pitch. Whatever they tell me, I'll do it." This is a good move on Pelfrey's part, as it appears Matt Boyd or Anibal Sanchez will win the No. 5 spot in the rotation. Pelfrey is guaranteed $8 million in the final season of his two-year contract, but even a roster spot isn't a sure thing at this point, as the loser of the rotation battle between Boyd and Sanchez could snag a bullpen spot as a long reliever.
