Rays' Jaime Schultz: Continues impressive spring Sunday

Schultz gave up a hit and a walk over a scoreless inning in Sunday's 7-4 Grapefruit League loss to the Yankees. He also recorded a strikeout.

Analysis:

The 25-year-old right-hander continued to make an impressive case to stick on the final roster over the weekend, preceding Sunday's outing with a perfect inning against the Red Sox on Saturday in which he recorded two strikeouts. Schultz sported a 5-7 record over 27 starts at Triple-A Durham last season that belied a much better overall performance, as he posted an outstanding 11.27 K/9. Given his impressive body of work over 14.2 spring innings (1.84 ERA, 22 strikeouts) and formidable stuff, he remains firmly in contention to serve as a late-inning option to open the regular season.
