Red Sox's Deven Marrero: Optioned to minors
Marrero has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis:
Marrero hit well during spring training, batting .302 (13-for-43), but we've learned his bat is not as consistent as his glove. He's diversified himself over the past two seasons and can fill in as a utility player, but he's not ready for a full-time role, as evidenced by his .487 minor league OPS last season. This move leaves Josh Rutledge and Marco Hernandez as the main competitors for the 25th spot on the roster.
