Cubs put up 33 runs in weekend series against Reds

The Cincinnati Reds felt the wrath of the defending World Series champion Chicago Cubs over the course of the weekend.

In just two games, the Reds allowed the Cubs to cross the plate 33 times.

Saturday's contest was a fairly close 11-7 victory for the Windy City squad, who opened the floodgates on Sunday with a 22-4 thrashing of their division rivals from Ohio.

Among Sunday's hit fest, Anthony Rizzo torched a first-inning, first-pitch home run during a rare appearance in the leadoff spot, while Albert Almora Jr. hammered two long balls of his own en route to a five-RBI day.

The three blasts from Rizzo and Almora Jr. were part of five on the day from the Cubs.

No club in baseball allowed more home runs than the Reds last season, who led MLB with 258.
