Blue Jays' J.A. Happ: Cruises past Boston in third spring start

Happ pitched 5.1 strong innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks while striking out five in Friday's game against the Red Sox.

Analysis:

Happ, who won 20 games and finished sixth in the AL Cy Young Award voting last year, spent much of the afternoon fine-tuning his changeup with catcher Russell Martin. The southpaw hopes to use the pitch more than he has in recent years to keep hitters off balance. "We were trying to see how that changeup would play," Happ said. "And I think we felt pretty good about it, so we threw that quite a bit. Just tried to get some more live looks on it." Through three Grapefruit League starts (11.1 innings), the 34-year-old has a 1.59 ERA and has notched eight strikeouts without walking a single batter.
