Padres' Ryan Schimpf: Homers in win Thursday

Schimpf went 1-for-2 with his first home run of the spring in Thursday's win over the Angels.

Analysis:

Schmipf -- who is currently competing for the Padres' starting third base job -- missed a couple weeks of action due to an oblique injury. Thursday's homer is a good sign that the minor issue is no longer bothering him. It is unclear who manager Andy Green will name as his starter at the hot corner to open the year, but the slugging infielder is worth a flyer for some power upside if he wins the job out of camp.
