Diamondbacks' Yasmany Tomas: Trending in right direction for Opening Day

Tomas (oblique) hit in a cage Thursday and is expected to increase his activity level Friday. "I feel very comfortable in saying that if he has another good day [Friday] that he's going to be ready for Opening Day," said manager Torey Lovullo on Thursday.

Analysis:

Friday is a significant day for the Diamondbacks with Opening Day approaching as A.J. Pollock is set to return to the lineup and Tomas will log another day of baseball activity. Lovullo's comments Thursday suggest that Tomas' cage session went off without a hitch, so another strong showing Friday will further help his chances at being ready for Opening Day. Tomas, who has been hampered by an oblique strain since early March, should be in line to be Arizona's primary left fielder in 2017.
