Watch: Bird thanks Yankees for starting 1st base job with 2-HR day

It appears Joe Girardi and the New York Yankees made the right choice by giving their starting first base job to Greg Bird.

Hours after Girardi selected Bird as his starter to begin the regular season, the young first baseman rewarded his skipper by hammering not one, but two home runs off of Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Vince Velasquez.

The pair of long balls pushed Bird's spring total to six, and his RBI count to 11, which is second on the team behind fellow budding superstar Gary Sanchez.
