The "Bringer of Rain" is returning to the infield.
Toronto slugger Josh Donaldson, who missed several weeks of spring training thanks to a calf issue, will make his long-awaited debut on defense Wednesday when he mans third base for the Blue Jays against the Detroit Tigers.
Donaldson suffered a calf sprain in the opening days of Blue Jays camp during a sprinting drill. He needed nearly a month of rehab and then played in minor-league games (where he didn't run the bases or play the field), before finally making his Grapefruit League debut as a DH on Monday. In that game, the 2015 AL MVP went 1-for-2 with a walk.
The 31-year-old posted a .953 OPS and hit 37 homers in 155 games for the Blue Jays last season.
