Astros' Teoscar Hernandez: Optioned to minors
Hernandez was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis:
Hernandez remains an intriguing prospect thanks to the combination of power and speed he demonstrated in the high minors and during his initial taste of the big leagues last season, but a crowded Astros outfield made it virtually impossible to crack the Opening Day roster. He could emerge as a right-handed platoon option with the big club at some point later this season once injuries take their toll, but expecting him to secure an everyday role might be too optimistic.
