Mets' Matt Harvey: Could have first start skipped

Harvey could remain behind in extended spring training to build up his stamina to begin the season and may miss his first turn through the rotation, the New York Daily News reports.

Analysis:

While seeing Harvey touch 96 mph with his fastball during Monday's start was definitely encouraging, he was still visibly flagging in the fifth inning. The Mets have an off day in the first week of the season and could use that to give the right-hander some extra time to build up his pitch count before having him make his 2017 debut, as he makes his comeback from surgery to correct his thoracic outlet syndrome. Expect the team's rotation plans to become clearer over the next week, with Opening Day fast approaching.
